
Star Trek legend Leonard Nimoy – best known for his role as Mr Spock in the classic TV series – has died aged 83.
According to the New York Times the actor passed away at his Los Angeles home on Friday morning, after being rushed to hospital with severe chest pains earlier this week.
His wife Susan Bay Nimoy told the paper that he had died of COPD or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease – which he blamed on years of smoking, despite having quit 30 years ago.
His last acting credit was 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness, for which he reprised the role of Mr Spock.
